INTRODUCTION A 40-year-old Caucasian male was brought to the emergency department after being found lying on the bathroom floor, disorientated, hyperventilating and unable to get up. He had been experiencing flu-like symptoms with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea for the past five days. His wife reported that he had limited intake of fluids and solids. The patient had no reportable medical history, had not seen a doctor for years, was taking no medications, and reported to neither consume alcohol nor smoke cigarettes. He did have a family history significant for diabetes and hypertension.
